If you require more intensive treatment, such as oral surgery, one of our surgical treatments is bone grafting. Bone grafting is typically used when preparing for a dental implant. This treatment can restore bone structure, which may have receded and been reabsorbed by the body after the loss of a tooth or due to periodontal disease.

Using a piece of bone from another part of your body or jaw, we will carefully transplant the bone material into the weakened area of the jawbone. Over time, this new bone tissue will fuse with the existing bone to create a strong, stable foundation for other restorative dental treatments. Artificial bone and bone fragments from a tissue bank can be used if needed.

This oral surgery treatment is usually only recommended if your bone density is not sufficient enough to support more rigorous restoration treatments. Our dentists will discuss your treatment options with you so you can get the most out of your dental care.

We encourage you to ask our dentists questions if you require bone grafting to restore your smile or prepare for a dental implant. We are happy to keep you educated about your care and provide the best possible treatment for your smile. Call or visit us today to learn more!
